The small business sector has been a hotly debated topic when it comes to utilities looking for ways to meet increasingly aggressive demand side management and energy efficiency goals.

As utility DSM program and portfolio managers face the dual challenges of increased savings goals and reduced administrative budgets, they increasingly look to trade allies for assistance. The results are often mixed as they grapple with the work of recruiting and managing a diverse set of service providers with motivations often different from the utility itself.

A major challenge facing most utilities is that they still rely on painful spreadsheets, ineffective additions to their CIS Systems, or archaic home-grown custom solutions where their DSM program data is only partially captured, disconnected, and difficult to manage with poor visibility.
