Resource Innovations Expands MODELEX Adoption as Utilities Turn to Advanced Grid Modeling to Improve Reliability

Three new utility clients adopt MODELEX™ Grid Network Model Optimization System™, signaling growing momentum for next-generation transmission modeling.
San Francisco, CA – January 15, 2026 – Resource Innovations (RI), a leading tech-enabled services company focused on energy efficiency and sustainability, announced today that three utility organizations have selected MODELEX™ Grid Network Model Optimization System™ to modernize how they simplify and analyze complex, interconnected transmission networks.
These additions reflect accelerating momentum for MODELEX as utilities seek to replace time-intensive, manual network reduction approaches with advanced, efficient, and validated modeling tools that improve situational awareness and strengthen operational reliability.
As the electric grid grows more complex—driven by increased penetration of variable renewable resources, distributed energy resources, and high-growth loads—utilities are under pressure to analyze increasingly large and interconnected transmission systems faster and with greater confidence. MODELEX addresses this challenge by accurately simplifying and validating interconnected, large-scale network models, enabling critical energy management, planning, and market applications to run significantly faster without sacrificing accuracy.
“Energy Management Systems (EMS) operate in near real time, so speed and accuracy are not optional,” said Resource Innovations’ Vice President of Grid Consulting, Dhiman Chatterjee. “MODELEX allows utilities to confidently reduce interconnected transmission models to only what matters most through detailed sensitivity calculations, dramatically improving analytical performance while maintaining trusted results.”
MODELEX uses state-of-the-art, extended Ward-based methodologies to consolidate external networks, analyze contingencies, assign sensitivity scores, and validate reduced models against full-system representations across a wide range of operating conditions. The result is a reduced network that is processed hundreds of times faster than traditional manual methods, while delivering the same or higher levels of accuracy.
For utilities, this translates to faster EMS solution times, lower computing requirements, reduced data maintenance burdens, and more efficient power flow and contingency analysis—capabilities that are essential for reliable, real-time grid monitoring and control.
MODELEX has been used by utilities across North America for more than four decades and continues to evolve as grid complexity increases. Its longevity underscores the value of accurate, validated network reduction as a foundation for reliable grid planning and real-time operations.
“This growth reflects a broader industry shift,” added Resource Innovations’ Vice President of Product Management, John Dirkman. “Utilities are moving toward proven, advanced modeling tools that can keep pace with modern grid operations and planning needs—and MODELEX is meeting that moment.”
