Apr 1, 2011
NEW YORK AND LONDON – Nexant announced today that the management team of True North Associates (TNA), an independent consultancy to the global chemicals and plastics industry, has joined the company’s Energy & Chemicals Consulting business unit. Based in the US and the UK, the TNA team includes three highly qualified and experienced consultants: Randy Rabenhorst, Bruce Orr, and Jonathan Bourne. Founded in 2003, TNA has conducted scores of single client engagements across a broad spectrum of the petrochemical industry and its investment community, with a primary focus on growth strategies.
Rabenhorst, Orr, and Bourne will strengthen Nexant’s consulting sales capability and lead client engagements in areas including strategic planning, transaction support, commercial analysis, portfolio assessments, and technology evaluation and development. The TNA team’s unique expertise encompasses the entire chemicals and plastics value chain—from high-volume petrochemicals to a full range of specialty chemicals.
Rabenhorst joins Nexant as a principal in the company’s White Plains, NY office. He is one of TNA’s founding partners and has been a consultant to the chemicals, plastics, and specialty chemicals industries since 1990. With a strong business and technical background, Randy has helped numerous clients successfully construct and articulate compelling value propositions for new technology to drive growth. In addition, his functional consulting experience includes competitive assessments, value-chain assessments, product and market positioning, pricing optimization, and acquisition valuations.
Prior to his role as a management consultant, Rabenhorst held various management positions in marketing, finance, and sales for Chemical Waste Management, River Services Inc., and the BF Goodrich Company. He holds an M.B.A. from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, as well as an M.S. in chemical engineering and a B.S. in physical sciences from University of Maryland.
Orr also joins Nexant as a principal based in White Plains, NY. At TNA, he originated and led client engagements across a spectrum of chemical, clean-tech, and process industries for both manufacturers and the financial community. As a thought leader in market-driven strategies, his client projects included portfolio assessments, geographic expansion strategies, new product/market development, acquisition due diligence, and business unit repositioning.
Prior to joining TNA in 2003, Orr was a vice president at Crompton Corporation (now Chemtura) where he led the marketing and business development efforts for an $800 million global specialty chemicals business unit. He began his career with Union Carbide Corporation in New York City. At Carbide and successor companies, he held positions as vice president and general manager, managing director for Europe, Africa and the Middle East, and international business management. Orr holds a B.A. in biological sciences from the University of Denver and is a graduate of the Advanced Management Program at Dartmouth College’s Amos Tuck School of Business.
Bourne joins Nexant as a vice president in Nexant’s London office. He has over 30 years of industrial and B2B management experience, including 10 years at BP Chemicals. For half of his career, he has been involved in corporate acquisitions and business restructuring.
Since 2001 Bourne has acted as a specialist management consultant, advising investors in the chemicals sector, as well as small and large manufacturing companies. He was formerly chemicals sector leader at Ernst & Young and managing director for the intermediate research and technology sector at PRA (part of the Pera Innovation Network). In addition to his extensive industry network, he brings experience in the chemicals and coatings markets and functional expertise in innovation strategy, operational improvement, and transaction support.
Bourne holds a B.Sc. Joint Honours in management and chemical sciences from the University of Manchester (UK). He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing and a Fellow of the Oil and Colour Chemists’ Association.
